USS DuPage Reunion
September 10-13, 2003
Fall River, Massachusetts
Our 60th ship's reunion was held in Fall River, Massachusetts, fifty miles south of Boston. The crew spent time getting reacquainted on Thursday, September 11th in our Hospitality suite at the Fall River Comfort Inn and went in small groups to dinner in the local area.
On Friday, Oliver Moreau, arranged a great day of site seeing. We visited the New Bedford Whaling Museum in the AM. After, we returned to a fabulous lunch made by Natalie Moreau (see the pictures below). In the afternoon, we traveled via coach to Newport, Rhode Island. Newport is know as the summer vacation spot of the rich and famous. We spent a few hours shopping on the waterfront and then proceeded to our tour of "The Breakers". This home was built in 1895 as a summer house for the Vanderbilt's. This summer home consists of seventy rooms, 130,000 square feet, and was used for 10 weeks each summer as a family retreat. The balance of the tour included a drive along the ocean and viewing other magnificent summer homes. That evening, we returned to our hotel and viewed pictures of last year's reunion as well as the events of the week.
Saturday, September 13th, the Annual Meeting was brought to order by President Vernon Neilson. Notes to be published and posted at a later date. The balance of the afternoon was spent in leisurely pursuits in the local area. Some of the crew and family visited Battleship Cove area in Fall River, others went to Newport for more shopping, etc.
Saturday evening, we all went to the reunion dinner at "White's of Westport" for their famous seafood. The evening was packed with fellowship, testimonials, and was deemed a special time for all.
Enjoy the photographs. Looking forward to our reunion next year in the Chicago area.
